This paper presents a solution for power management of a mobile robot, using web-based wireless Wake-on-LAN (WWoL). The focus in on power management of a mobile robot, but this approach is also suitable for most of the IoT mobile devices, and other systems that are designed to be used remotely. The proposed solution allows the targeted device to be powered ON and OFF remotely via a web-based dashboard. This approach was validated in a case study with an AR drone 2.0 and demonstrated substantial power optimization for the drone. In addition, security issues are explored when WWoL is deployed in remote control of mobile devices. It was established that power consumption is reduced when the drone is in a standby mode waiting for an operator to send a wake-on request message wirelessly, without compromising security posed by wireless remote access to the devices.","PeriodicalId":121030,"journal":{"name":"2018 24th International Conference on Automation and Computing (ICAC)","volume":"42 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120906047","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents an overview of mechanism and research status and characteristics of a nanofabrication approach-scanning probe lithography. The focus is on the effects of thermal, chemistry, electric fields and force between probe and substrate on SPL. It concludes that the mechanical SPL demonstrates an outstanding fabrication ability and is a promising thread in the future nanofabrication approaches. Despite all this, it has to overcome current challenges in low processing efficiency and the restriction of the tip radius size to genuinely realize industrial scale production.","PeriodicalId":121030,"journal":{"name":"2018 24th International Conference on Automation and Computing (ICAC)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132499538","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

VR is used in different fields such as medical, gaming and simulation etc. A VR environment provides a realistic presence, however, in many cases, a VR environment can cause motion sickness. In this paper, our contribution is twofold. Firstly, we investigate and highlight the factors that can cause motion sickness in the VR environment. Secondly, we perform survey questionnaire from different VR users to determine the effect of each factor (such as nausea, fatigue) on different users. We run our experiments on Oculus Rift DK2 and have used ‘Escape’ as a VR game. The results revealed that many participants left the test without completing the simulation and remaining suffered from motion sickness. Some interesting facts of VR environment form part of the paper.","PeriodicalId":121030,"journal":{"name":"2018 24th International Conference on Automation and Computing (ICAC)","volume":"117 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124945618","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the high demand of safety and real- time feature, CPS requires massive real-time spatial and temporal messages. Therefore, representation and demonstration of spatio- temporal information is vital in every stage, such as specification, design, operation, control, and supervision of CPS. In this paper, we propose a method combining clock theory and RCC-8 together indicating spatio-temporal information of CPS, and we present spatio-temporal sequence diagram for change tracking under the specific scene. We take vehicle system as instance to see how the method work in description of spatio-temporal information between vehicles and vehicles, vehicles and people, vehicle and surroundings in different situations.","PeriodicalId":121030,"journal":{"name":"2018 24th International Conference on Automation and Computing (ICAC)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122817164","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Inspired by synchronous flashing of fireflies, a bio-inspired model, Pulse-Coupled Oscillators (PCO), has been intensively studied. The most studies on PCOs are theoretical work, and the assumption is given that oscillators broadcast and receive the Pulses simultaneously when synchronization of a network is achieved. This is not true when it comes to any real-world environments. From the viewpoint of WSNs, the clock of a sensor node driven by crystal oscillators can be modelled as an oscillator, and Pulse firing can be implemented by transmitting a packet. However, the concurrent transmission of Pulse packets is impossible due to the packet collision in the single wireless channel. To avoid this issue in WSNs, this paper adopts a desynchronization mechanism, in which the Pulse packets are transmitted to the wireless channel in a uniformly distributed fashion and in accordance with standard IEEE 802.15.4. A hardware testbed is developed to implement the desynchronized pulse-coupled oscillators, and it can also be extended to the large-scale wireless sensor networks.","PeriodicalId":121030,"journal":{"name":"2018 24th International Conference on Automation and Computing (ICAC)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115557426","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Correct and precise estimation plays an important role in successful software development and organization productivity. Constructive Cost Model (COCOMO) is an algorithmic model commonly used in estimating time and effort having four coefficients. From the last few decades, many researchers work on optimization of the COCOMO model by using naturally inspired algorithms. Such optimization algorithms help the software industry in predicting accurate and genuine values of cost and effort used for software project development and maintenance. In this paper, we are using a new meta-heuristic algorithm inspired by the strawberry plant for optimization of COCOMO effort estimation method. NASA 93 data set is used in the proposed approach. The Magnitude of Relative Error (MRE) and Mean Magnitude of Relative Error (MMRE) is evaluated. It is a challenge to tracing and monitoring these pipes effectively and accurately due to invisibility. Accurate information of these pipes could aid the utility owners in the planning and managing of their installations, especially for maintenance purpose. RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) that is seen as a Ubiquitous Sensor Network can provide an effective solution for the call. This paper focuses on using RFID to support the management of underground utilities by developing a complete sensor tracking and information management system. A major component of this system includes RFID reader, tags attached to pipes, Android mobile terminal and server. Research activities includes specifying functions of individual system module, conducting laboratory evaluations of the performance of RFID tags in underground conditions, system prototyping and function test. The investigated solution enables both proactive and corrective identification, inspection and maintenance of underground pipelines. It also offers users abilities to manage data harvested from digital tags attached to pipes, which is far more efficient than the rigid traditional achieving and paper-based logging system","PeriodicalId":121030,"journal":{"name":"2018 24th International Conference on Automation and Computing (ICAC)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127448288","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Especially, it is difficult to manage a large warehouse only with human. In this paper, the open platform of automated guided vehicle is introduced to meet the demands of logistics field. The design of hardware is ensured that vehicle is able to lift up and down goods without problems. There are three levels of software design such as firmware, middleware and monitoring software. In lowest level, firmware drives servo motors directly, receives signals from sensors and carried out the control command. The mission of middleware is to protect communication lacking traffic jam. In host PC, monitoring software displays internal parameters of system, provide executed status or caution. In theoretical analysis, the controller is integrated in microprocessor to track the pre-defined trajectory as well as guarantee the smooth motion. From the experimental results, the design and control method that proved in this work are feasible and capable.","PeriodicalId":121030,"journal":{"name":"2018 24th International Conference on Automation and Computing (ICAC)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126182914","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
