An approach called the expectation-driven response understanding paradigm was developed. In this paradigm, it is assumed that each system-generated question is accompanied by an expectation of what the user should respond. The system attempts to link this expectation with the user's response in order to quantify its appropriateness in relation to the system's original question. A prototype system based on this paradigm has been implemented and integrated with the INGRES database system.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":117336,"journal":{"name":"[1991] Proceedings of the IEEE/ACM International Conference on Developing and Managing Expert System Programs","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1991-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115368889","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is proposed that real-time image data compression can be achieved by using a neural network model based on an unsupervised learning method called self-organization. The validation problem and how it can be solved using decision tables are addressed. In most cases, decision table engineering is able to provide extensive validation and verification assistance. Moreover, the knowledge acquisition process is well served through the overview and communication abilities of well-structured decision tables. The automated use of decision tables by means of a decision table engineering workbench, the main element behind the method, is shown.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":117336,"journal":{"name":"[1991] Proceedings of the IEEE/ACM International Conference on Developing and Managing Expert System Programs","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117203237","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
