Aim: this study aimed to assess the effect of practicing Buteyko breathing technique on asthma symptoms among patients with bronchial asthma. Hypothesis: It was hypothesized that practicing Buteyko Breathing Technique will have significant effect on reducing the severity of asthma symptoms among study group of patients with bronchial asthma and will improve their ability to control asthma. Design: A Quasi-experimental research design was used in this study. Setting: This study was conducted in Chest Medicine Ward and clinic at Ain Shams University Hospital. Subjects: A purposive sample of 100 patients with bronchial asthma, 50 were assigned in experimental group and 50 patients in control group. Tools: Three tools were utilized; the first tool used to collect patients' clinical data, the second tool used to assess bronchial asthma symptoms’ severity and the third tool used to assess level of asthma control. Results: The symptoms severity, which need for treatment were reduced, also control of bronchial asthma were improved in the study group post implementation of the Buteyko Breathing Technique. Conclusion: There is a positive effect for practicing Buteyko Breathing exercise on reducing asthma symptoms’ severity and improve the ability to control asthmatic patients. Recommendations: Further research studies are needed to study new modalities to reduce asthma symptoms.","PeriodicalId":111627,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Midwifery and Nursing Practice","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128262260","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An estimated 972 million people in the world wide suffering from high blood pressure. Incidence rate of hypertension range 3% to 18% depending on the age, gender, ethnicity & body size. Material & Methods: A Pre experimental study with one group pre-test post-test design with evaluative approach was adopted for the present study. The structured knowledge questionnaire was developed to collect the data from 40 hypertensive patients attending OPD in J.K. Hospital Bhopal. The samples were selected by using Non Probability convenient sampling technique and written& informed consent was taken from the Hypertensive patients. Results: The finding of the study was found that pre test mean knowledge was (7.575+2.11) and post test mean knowledge score was (14.7+1.95) The significance of finding was obtained by using paired “t” test, the value of knowledge score was 29.28 ( p< 0.005) emphasizing the significance of findings Conclusion: This study concludes that there is improvement in the level of knowledge of patient with hypertension which indicates that the structured teaching programme is effective. Nursing IV Year students divided into two groups at 30 in experimental and 30 in control group. The tools used for conducting the study included demographic data self structured questionnaire to assess knowledge of experimental and control group. The experimental group was given computer assisted instruction as an intervention and the control group was used for comparison only without interventions. The data were analyzed with statistics and unpaired t-test was done. Among type 1 diabetes, it is relate with 4-10% of deaths. The mortality rate correlates with severe hypoglycemia in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes is 3.4 folds higher versus those with milder event. HCV-monoinfected pregnant women have a 2 – 8% risk of viral transmission to their infant, but the mechanism and timing of mother to child transmission are not fully understood, nor is the natural history of the illness in pregnant women and their offspring. Recognition of HCV is relevant to infected pregnant women because of their risk of the long-term complications of infection, potential effects of infection on pregnancy, and risk of transmission to their infants. Unlike HIV; effective methods of prevention of HCV vertical transmission have not been developed. It is possible that a better understanding of HCV pathogenesis in pregnancy and MTCT of HCV infection will lead to useful prevention strategies, particularly as we enter an era where interferon-free drug cocktails may emerge as viable treatment options for HCV. Information on HCV infection in pregnant women in India is scanty. This study was carried out to investigate the screening and prevalence of HCV within an obstetric population and to identify the various risk factors for the viral infection in a view of limited studies and resources, important consideration on literature review taken.","PeriodicalId":111627,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Midwifery and Nursing Practice","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127826351","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study was to assess the impact of self-efficacy, health locus of control, demographic and clinical predictors on the level of quality of life among patients with type 2 DM as well as to explore the association between these variables. Methods: A community sample of 50 DM out clinic patients completed the Greek versions of the Missoula VITAS Quality of Life Index, the General Self-Efficacy Scale, the Multidimensional Health Locus of Control Scale and a questionnaire with demographic and clinical characteristics. Statistical analysis was performed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 20. The statistical significance level was set up at 0.05. Results : There was a statistically significant correlation between self-efficacy and total quality of life score (r=0.34, p< 0.05) and its dimensions “Interpersonal” (r=0.391, p<0.01) and “Transcendent” (r=0.362, p<0.01). There was no statistically significant correlation between the Health Locus of Control and quality of life. Significant but moderate correlations were found between the total score of quality of life and education (r=0.307, p<0.05), the total score of quality of life and height (r=0.34, p<0.05). Conclusions: Self-efficacy and type of treatment were among the predictors of quality of life. The more the self-efficacy increases, the more the quality of life and some of its dimensions increase. Health Locus of Control may not be associated with quality of life.","PeriodicalId":111627,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Midwifery and Nursing Practice","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131244623","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, it is consensus among most researchers that children should be treated and evaluated according to age group and cognitive development with adequate tools. So, it is up to the nursing team to be prepared to evaluate and treat pain with a holistic and more humanized view.
