The strip is designed to maximize the cross-component of the backscattered signal hence the conductive strip performs as an EM-polarizer. This characteristic is been utilized at the radio frequency identification (RFID) system to propose a chipless tag structure with enhanced data encoding capacity.","PeriodicalId":108280,"journal":{"name":"2014 1st Australian Microwave Symposium (AMS)","volume":"28 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123549153","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper briefly describes two main categories of metamaterial-inspired displacement sensors, namely, the displacement sensors based on shift in the resonance frequency, and sensors based on changes in the depth of resonance. The paper also highlights the advantages and disadvantages of each category in terms of dynamic range, sensitivity, compactness, and robustness to noise and changes in ambient conditions.","PeriodicalId":108280,"journal":{"name":"2014 1st Australian Microwave Symposium (AMS)","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122815768","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Steady state S-parameter frequency responses can be obtained directly from the state matrices, whereas the temporal response for arbitrary input excitations requires solution of the state equation. The capacitances due to the presence of a gate field plate are observed to be intrinsic in nature, while those associated with a source-connected field plate can be regarded as extrinsic. Close agreement is observed between measurement and simulation of S-parameters using a device model which considers the individual effects of the field plates.","PeriodicalId":108280,"journal":{"name":"2014 1st Australian Microwave Symposium (AMS)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127496563","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With a chip size of less than 1.4 mm2, this two-stage LNA achieves an average small signal gain of 12 dB between 80 and 100 GHz. The measured noise figure averages 5 dB up to 94 GHz. To the author knowledge, this performance is one of the very few reported for W-band LNAs fabricated in commercially available foundry process. It is also comparable to the best results reported with more advanced InP or Metamorphic HEMT low noise technologies.","PeriodicalId":108280,"journal":{"name":"2014 1st Australian Microwave Symposium (AMS)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129076049","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The prototype system comprises of a compact ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna, custom-made transceiver and an image processing unit. The system is experimentally tested on a realistic three-dimensional (3D) printed human head phantom. A confocal image processing algorithm based on delay and sum approach is used to rapidly map the scanned layer of the head phantom. The low-cost, fast application, prompt detection and portability features of the proposed model make it a strong candidate to be used by the first response paramedics.","PeriodicalId":108280,"journal":{"name":"2014 1st Australian Microwave Symposium (AMS)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128015725","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed system can replace the commercial VNA, which is currently used in experimental microwave imaging systems. The proposed SDRadar has the capability to produce synthetic stepped-frequency continuous wave, frequency modulated continuous waveforms (FMCW) and pseudo random noise waveforms that can be used for non-linear and time variant medium. This will lead to a vital opportunity to improve the time, resolutions and accuracy in microwave-based medical imaging. Furthermore, the proposed device with hybrid waveforms can be designed for better imaging of complex human tissues.","PeriodicalId":108280,"journal":{"name":"2014 1st Australian Microwave Symposium (AMS)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133654692","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This calls for an adaptive duplexer, which needs a low-isolation device to create an initial isolation. Such a device is implemented in a 130 nm Silicon-on-Insulator (SOI) process. Its performance benefits from a high-Q laminated PCB inductor which has a measured inductance and Q-factor at 2 GHz of 1.19 nH and 125, respectively. The tunable low-isolation device provides an isolation exceeding 30 dB at both transmit and receive frequencies of each targeted four LTE frequency bands. The insertion loss from PA to antenna is below 2 dB in LTE band I. The implemented circuit occupies an area of 2.4 mm2.","PeriodicalId":108280,"journal":{"name":"2014 1st Australian Microwave Symposium (AMS)","volume":"125 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132491386","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Detection error rate (DER) of a 4-bit multi-resonator chipless tag reading is performed using proposed detection algorithm. The computation complexity of the proposed detection method is significantly less compared to the other reported maximum likelihood (ML) detection techniques hence it is a feasible reading technique especially under larger number of tag bits. Validity of the proposed detection technique was verified using Computer Simulation Technology (CST) and MATLAB simulations.","PeriodicalId":108280,"journal":{"name":"2014 1st Australian Microwave Symposium (AMS)","volume":"2012 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125635003","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
