The participants were four mentee teachers and four mentor-teachers. The relationship between the development of beginning science teachers teaching practice and characteristics of the mentoring and interactions was investigated by analyzing conversations between mentor and mentee teachers during the collaborative mentoring. Three mentoring conversation records and transcripts during mentoring program were collected. An analytical framework of mentoring conversations was used in the analysis of mentoring conversations and RTOP was used for lesson analysis to determine the development of teaching practice. The results show that the types of interactions during mentoring varied according to the mentoring teams. Mentors who encouraged reflective thinking induced a higher level of teaching in their mentees. The mentor qualification standard was determined from the relationship between the characteristics of the interaction and the improvement in beginning teacher’s teaching practice. {"title":"International Comparative Study on Astronomical Exhibits: Focus on Exhibit Characteristics and Earth Science Curriculum Reflected in Exhibits","authors":"김수경, 박은지, 김찬종, 최승언","doi":"10.14697/JKASE.2016.36.6.0925","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.14697/JKASE.2016.36.6.0925","url":null,"abstract":"천문학은 학생들의 호기심과 탐구하고자하는 욕구가 매우 높은 분야이나 교실 수업이라는 제약이 있어 학습의 효과를 증대시키는 것이 어렵다. 이에 대한 대안으로 등장한 과학관은 교실 수업과 상호보완적인 역할을 수행한다는 점에서 그 중요성이 대두되고 있다. 과학관은 학습자에게 글로 된 설명이나 삽화가 제공하는 그 이상의 경험을 줄 수 있으므로 교육적 효과를 극대화하기 위해서는 천체 관련전시물의 교육적인 측면을 살펴보고 이를 보완할 필요가 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 천체전시물의 효과적인 전시특성을 살펴보고 그 내용이 형식교육기관과 어떻게 상호보완하고 있는지를 알아보고자 했다. 이를 위해 먼저 한국, 미국, 일본 세 나라의 유명 과학관을 선정한 뒤 천문학 관련 전시물의 특징을 분석하였다. 이 때 전시의 특징으로는 전시 기술과 매체, 전시 표현, 활동유형 등을 고려하였다. 또한 각 전시 내용에서 과학교육과정을 어떻게 반영하고 있는가를 살펴보았다. 분석 기준으로 사용한 교육과정분석틀은 한국, 일본의 국가 수준의 과학교육과정과 미국의 국가과학교육기준(National Science Education Standards)을 근거로 하였다. 연구의 결과는 첫째, 미국과 일본의 과학관은 국내에 비해 빅뱅우주 전시 등 천체와 관련된 전시 콘텐츠를 다수 확보하고 있었으며 체험형 전시물이 주를 이루었다. 이를 통해 국내 과학관에도 우주의 원리와 같은 내용을 관람객이 보다 실감나게 체험해볼 수 있는 체험형 전시물이 필요함을 확인할 수 있었다. 둘째, 세 나라 천체전시물의 내용은 모두 과학교육과정과 잘 연계되어 있었다. 다만 교육과정 상에서, 빅뱅우주와 같은 내용은 선택교육과정에 배치되어 있다는 점으로 미루어 보건대, 대다수 학생들은 이를 학습할 기회가 부족할 것이다. 따라서 공통교육과정에서 다루지 않는 내용을 과학관에서 학습할 수 있도록 천체전시에 있어서 충실한 교육과정의 고려가 필요하다.","PeriodicalId":107400,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Korean Association for Research in Science Education","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126828533","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, this aims to confirm the possibility of the realization of ‘Practice Centered Mechanism of Manifesting Character’ developed on the basis of character education theory through the application of the NABI Program based on Nature-Study. For this, the NABI program was applied to 24 3rd grade students of an elementary school for a period of ten months. Qualitative data was collected like students’ reports, journals, and video recording of the classes. This data was classified into ‘value, judgment, action,’ the steps of ‘Practice Centered Mechanism of Manifesting Character,’ and text was written by interpreting the data. The research resulted in the following: First, students formed ‘value’ by making a connection with the objects. And the various values - individual, interpersonal, social, ecological, and spiritual - are formed according to the type of objects with which the students felt a connection to. Second, students need to judge the problems of the real world at the ‘judgment’ step. Third, at the ‘action’ step, students practice moral behavior in relation to the sympathy or feeling they felt with the objects that they made a connection to. In conclusion, ‘Practice Centered Mechanism of Manifesting Character’ can be realized through the application of the NABI Program. The progression is identified as the development of group norms and an epistemic understanding of argumentation with the enhancement of group argumentation competency during collaborative reflection and argumentation lessons. Participants were four first grade middle school students who have different academic achievements and learning approaches. They participated in ten argumentation lessons related to photosynthesis and in seven collaborative reflections. As a result, the students’ group norms related to participation were developed, and the students’ epistemic understanding of argumentation was enhanced. Furthermore, the students’ group argumentation competencies, identified as argumentation product and argumentation process, were advanced. As the collaborative reflection and argumentation lessons progressed, statements related to rebuttal increased and different students suggested a range of evidence with which to justify their claims or to rebut others’ arguments. This study aims to investigate the level of Korean pre-service biology teachers’ understanding of natural selection by comparing their knowledge with their Chinese, American, and German biology major undergraduate counterparts. In particular, this study focuses on two conceptual components of natural selection (i.e., ecology and genetics). This study used a total 1226 pre-service biology teachers and biology majors’ data. The instrument measuring the understanding of natural selection concepts was Conceptual Inventory of Natural Selection, which consists of ten ecology concept items and ten genetics concept items. The Rasch model analysis, multivariate analysis of variance, and univariate analysis of variance were used for the statistical tests. The result reveals that the level of Korean pre-service biology teachers’ understanding of natural selection were similar with Chinese undergraduates’ understanding and significantly lower than American and German undergraduates.’ In the first year student data, the level of genetics concept of Korean pre-service biology teachers were significantly lower than Chinese and German students. In the fourth year student data, the level of ecology concept of Korean pre-service biology teachers were significantly lower than American and German students. The unit deals with six integrated inquiry process skills: problem cognition, formulating hypotheses, controlling variables, transforming and interpreting data, drawing results, and generalization. The purpose of this study is to investigate the perceptions and the teaching practices of elementary school teachers on this unit in their school curriculum and where improvements can be made. Data was collected from questionnaires filled out by 92 elementary school teachers. The results are as follows: First, teachers do have a positive perception on the importance of teaching integrated process skills. Second, with that being true, this unit ended up receiving both positive and negative reviews by teachers. This research found that there were good and bad responses on the educational aspects of this unit in three particular areas: dealing with the development of integrated inquiry process skills, facilitating science learning in other units, and implementing open inquiry. Third, teachers have difficulties particularly in problem cognition, formulating hypotheses, controlling variables, transforming and interpreting data, generalization, and drawing results. There is a lack of student understanding as well as a lack of professionalism for teachers on this unit, and many issues related to the composition of the textbook. SNS 토론과 면대면 토론에서 사용한 논증유형을 분석한 결과 가장 많이 사용한 논증유형은 인과 유형이었고, SNS 토론의 경우 인과 유형 다음으로 많이 사용한 논증유형은 징표, 유추, 권위, 동기 순이었다. 그에 비해 면대면 토론 결과 인과 유형이 전체 논증 유형의 76% 이상이었고, 나머지 논증 유형은 거의 사용하지 않았거나 주제에 따라 유추, 권위, 동기의 논증 유형을 1∼2회 정도 사용하였음을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 면대면 토론을 한 학생보다 SNS 토론을 한 학생들이 인과 이외에도 일반화, 분류화와 병렬적 사례 등의 다양한 논증유형을 사용하였다. 학생의 성격특성별 의사결정능력의 세 가지 요인인 쟁점의 복잡성, 관점의 다양성, 탐구의 객관성 결과를 분석해보면 의사결정능력의 `쟁점의 복잡성`요인에서는 수용성의 학생그룹에서만 SNS 토론집단과 면대면 토론집단 간에 유의미한 차이가 나타났고, `관점의 다양성`요인에서는 외향성, 수용성, 성실성 모두 SNS 토론집단과 면대면 토론집단 간에 유의미한 차이가 있었다. 마지막으로 `탐구의 객관성`요인에서는 외향성, 수용성, 성실성 모두 SNS 토론집단과 면대면 토론집단 간에 유의미한 차이가 없었다. 연구 결과 육색사고모를 이용한 SSI 주제의 토론수업이 기존의 면대면 토론보다 SNS 토론이 학생들이 다양한 논증유형을 사용해 주장하는데 효과적인 방법이고 의사결정능력 검사의 `관점의 다양성`의 요인에서 성격특성에 관계없이 SNS 토론이 더 효과적이라는 것을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 SSI 주제에 대해 육색사고모자를 활용한 SNS토론이 주제에 대한 다양한 관점을 고려해 보고 의사결정을 하는데 효과적인 방법의 하나로 될 수 있음을 알 수 있었다.","PeriodicalId":107400,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Korean Association for Research in Science Education","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133964107","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The processes of making written test items individually for 8 pre-service teachers was studied through the think-aloud method. The analysis of the results revealed that the ‘assessment in science education’ of the five PCK components was most frequently used in making test items. ‘Curriculum for science education,’ ‘subject matter knowledge,’ and ‘students’ were also frequently used although fewer than the previous component. However, ‘instructional strategies and instruction for science education’ was hardly used. The integrations between two or three components with various types were frequently found. However, integrations among four to five components were not found. The processes of making written test items in two small groups consisting of four pre-service teachers were observed. The analysis of the results revealed that the PCK components used in small groups were similar to those in the individual processes. However, ‘curriculum for science education’ was less frequently used, and the numbers of subcategories used at a relatively high frequency increased from other four components in small groups. In the aspects of integration, the proportion of the integrations between two components decreased and that for three components increased compared with those in the individual processes. The integrations among four or five components were also newly found. However, the integrations of ‘curriculum for science education’ with the other components were less frequently found.
