Experience in the field achieved until now was the basis to build the site for testing of lightning and overvoltage protection of residential buildings, low and medium voltage electrical networks, and electrical and electronic devices. For the experiments two new lightning current generators with energy 50 kJ and 100 kJ, and measuring system based on fiber optic technology were constructed and built in Poland. Additionally, a lightning observation station for investigation of natural lightning is implemented at the Rzeszow University of Technology, Poland. But with the increase of operation voltage to 1000 kV and tower height to more than 100 meters, some shortcomings of the traditional EGM model were found by many researchers. Leader Progression Model (LPM) was proposed to solve these problems. But some fundamental works, such as when the upward leader initiates and how it propagates, is still indistinct. An experiment was designed and implemented in this paper to simulate the electric field circumstance near the test transmission line while the lightning downward leader approached. The upward leader from the test transmission line was clearly observed. The inception voltage and characteristics was analyzed. The streamer and leader initiated from the ground wire and conductor bundle were compared. The experiment results show that the leader initiating from the ground wire is more active in the inception stage. Considering the difference between the initial polarity of initial breakdown pulses and the first return stoke (RS), three types of bipolar pulse trains, including the same polarity, the opposite polarity and the both polarity, are identified. The percentages are 83.5%, 10% and 5.5%, respectively. The statistic results show that PCG flash with breakdown pulse trains, which occur when the amount of PCG flash is little, is about 11.6% of the total PCG flashes. The average time interval between the peak of adjacent pulses and pulse duration are 270.99 μs and 25.01 μs, respectively. The mean value of pulse train duration and the interval between PBP train and RS is 8.88 ms and 98.48ms, respectively. The average ratio of all samples between the maximum amplitude of pulse train and the amplitude of the first stroke pulse is 0.16. The paper presents that the reduction of ground wire shield angle and distance of the gap with an appropriate length is an important measure for reducing shielding failure trip-out rate of 1000kV transmission lines. Therefore, it is particularly necessary to pay attention to the shielding failure flashover of the lines in mountainous areas with bigger inclination of ground along the lines. In this paper, authors introduce the ground wire shield angles used for UHV transmission lines in plain and mountainous areas in China as well as the operation situation of UHV transmission lines in China in recent two and a half years. Lightning trip-out faults have never occurred up to the present time in China's UHV transmission lines, thus preliminarily showing a good lightning performance. Based on the complex network theory and from the perspective of network efficiency, this paper analyzed the inherent fragile domain of power transmission network and had the risk assessment of lightning flashover of the weak field lines through the research of topological properties of the grid and chain dynamic fault simulation. Firstly, based on network topology mode, we proposed two methods based on edge betweenness of cascading outages model and its algorithm, analyzed the static structural properties of network and chain dynamic fault simulation, and qualitatively analyzed the impact of the topological characteristics of the power to the transmission of cascading outages. By calculating the efficiency of network and the loss of value of the network efficiency on failure modes to measure each edge's impact on network performance and then we figured out the fragile domain which influence the performance of the transmission network. Secondly, we analyzed the trip-out rate of specific lines of fragile domain according to the procedures and tried to find out the lines with higher trip-out rate. In fact, during the measure of lightning electromagnetic pulses (LEMP), the electromagnetic environment and the measuring systems composed by analog-digital converters (ADC), coupling system and electronic circuits, inevitably introduce noise in the measured signals. In recent years, several activities has been developed by EMC-UNC group to measure, study and classify the parameters of lightning electric fields (LEF) in Bogotá, Colombia. However, the obtained measurements are distorted by significant noise levels. This paper shows the results of the first approach to apply the fractional Fourier transform as an alternative technique to reduce the presence of noise in a set of electric field signatures and presents the basic conditions to realize the filtering process in the fractional Fourier domain. Afterwards, some lightning electric field temporal characteristics were analyzed by using the processed signatures. The critical electric field on the surface of the 12.65-mm-radius wire for corona initiation is set to E0 = 1.4, 2.4 or 2.9 MV/m. The critical background electric field for streamer propagation is set to Ecp = 0.5 MV/m for positive voltage applications, and Ecn = 1.5 MV/m for negative voltage applications. In natural lighting, induced voltage waveforms and amplitudes generated on the live conductor and the neutral conductor are basically consistent, the amplitude and steepness of the voltage at the household side are higher than those at the AWS collector site, but the continuation time is the same, also are the reverse waveforms and amplitudes. The analysis indicated that the 52m long buried cable reduced the induced voltage gradient and amplitude. The control method mainly focuses on the importance of present power management and energy saving, so that it is necessary to reduce the power consumption while the power supply is working or standby. Therefore, this paper proposed and verified some practical methods to reduce the switching loss or other normal rated losses of a switching power supply at a very light load or no load. In addition, the pros and cons of varying-frequency synchronous rectification and other loss reduction technologies are introduced. The new control method disclosed in this paper also takes the voltage resistance level of the surge protection of electronic products into consideration. In general, a power supply is the electronic device having the most impact on surges. For induced voltages or currents produced by indoor indirect contact surges, European Union CE regulation EN 55024 requires all ITE products should pass and certify the EN61000–4–5 surge test, and adjustments of the design and arrangement for integrated circuit protection structure for the power supply are taken if necessary. Therefore, this paper also emphasizes this specification for the test and shows that the installed secondary side can prevent or reduce the influence of surges. In the meantime, the design method provided by this paper completes the experiments on 5V/8A and 12V/13A power supplies with a total output of 196W, and achieves an excellent energy-saving effect in the condition of a reduced switching loss.
