Steroid resistant nephrotic syndrome (SRNS) represents about 20% of children with nephrotic syndrome. SRNS is one of the leading indications for performing renal biopsy in children. The objective of this retrospective study is to determine the histological patterns of SRNS in Bulgarian children and to compare them with the worldwide findings. The study included 49 patients with SRNS. All biopsies were performed at the Department of Pediatric Nephrology and Dialysis, University Children's Hospital, Sofia, Bulgaria between January 2004 and January 2020. The renal biopsies were examined histologically and with immunohistochemistry at the Pathology Department, Military Medical Academy, Sofia and Medical University – Sofia, Bulgaria. Twenty-eight boys (57.1%) and 21 girls (42.9%) were included in the study. The age at diagnosis ranged from 8 months to 212 months (17 years and 8 months) with a mean of 94 months (7 years and 10 months). Generalized edema was the most common presentation – 55.1%, followed by microhaematuria – 53.1% of cases. Histological examination revealed several different forms: Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) in 30.6% (n=15), Mesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis (MesPGN) in 14.3% (n=7), Membranous glomerulonephritis (MGN) in 12.2% (n=6), IgM nephropathy in 12.2% (n=6), Membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (MPGN) type I in 8.2% (n=4), C3 glomerulopathy 8.2% (n=4), Minimal change disease (MCD) in 4.1% (n=2), IgA glomerulonephritis in 4.1% (n=2), Diffuse mesangial sclerosis (DMS) in 4.1% (n=2) and C1q nephropathy in 2.0% (n=1). Although SRNS in Bulgarian children might represent a broad spectrum of glomerular diseases it could be attributed in approximately two/third of patients to four of them – FSGS, MesPGN, MGN, and IgM nephropathy.

The expression levels of circUBR1, miR-216a-3p and HSC3 were assessed in tissues from oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and adjacent tissues. \u0000Based on the transfection targets, the cells were divided into four groups: si-NC, si-circUBR1, miR-NC, miR-216a-3p, si-circUBR1+anti-miR-NC and si-circUBR1+anti-miR-216a-3p. The cell viability, scratch healing rate, MMP-2 and MMP-9 expression, number of cell clones formed, and number of invasion cells were significantly lower in the miR-216a-3p group compared to the miR-NC group (p<0.05). \u0000Moreover, when comparing the si-circUBR1+anti-miR-NC group to the si-circUBR1+anti-miR-216a-3p group, the cell viability, scratch healing rate, MMP-2 and MMP-9 expression, number of cell clones formed, and number of invasion cells were significantly higher in the si-circUBR1+anti-miR-216a-3p group (p<0.05). This suggests that disrupting circUBR1 expression leads to up-regulation of miR-216a-3p, resulting in reduced proliferation, clone formation, migration, and invasion of OSCC cells.

Together with computer automated perimetry, optical coherence tomography (OCT), angio-OCT, fluorescein angiography (FA), fundus autofluorescence (FAF) and adaptive optics, they allow very accurate topographical localization of the defect. And along with the advances in genetics, optogenetics, molecular biology, retinal biochemistry and regenerative medicine, they provide a better understanding of the mechanism of these diseases and increase the therapeutic opportunities. \u0000The treatment of many of these diseases is still problematic, but because most of them are severely disabling the individual, the scientists' efforts are focused on finding an appropriate therapy. For many of these diseases, there are clinical trials worldwide, the results of some of them are quite encouraging, and many effective therapies for these currently incurable diseases are expected to be introduced in the near future. \u0000The purpose of this study is to analyze the scientific knowledge, as well as the therapeutic opportunities that are being experimented to date.

The present study deals with clonal in vitro propagation of high-productive immortelle individuals. In vitro culture was initiated from stem tips on basal MS medium and sub-cultured several times on the same medium or on media supplemented with activated charcoal or with different plant growth regulators. Plants differed by their height, ramification, in vitro rooting, and callus formation. The highest propagation rate of 13.5±4.2 new shoots per explant, along with spontaneous rooting, was noticed in spring on the control MS medium. About 180 plants were successfully ex vitro adapted first in a phytotron, then in a greenhouse, and 14 were transferred outdoor in the ex situ collection where they acclimatized and bloomed in the first season. The nuclear DNA amount in 65 individuals was measured by flow cytometry, and no deviations in the ploidy level were detected. The results suggest the genome of the in vitro obtained plants is stable. Essential oil was extracted by water distillation from two pooled samples, one for the mother plants and another one for the ex vitro adapted plants. The main components identified by GC/MS in both samples were α-pinene, nerol acetate, and γ-curcumene. The results proved that the method of the in vitro clonal propagation is reliable for obtaining of numerous true-to-type plants in a short time, by direct organogenesis of high-productive individuals of H. italicum.

POI is a primary ovarian defect resulting from follicular depletion and/or ovarian dysfunction caused by a compromised ovarian somatic cell compartment. Etiologically, ovarian dysfunction could be caused by certain diseases, including infections and autoimmune disorders. There could also be iatrogenic factors such as chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery. The related surgical risks are due to the possibility of disrupting the blood supply to the ovary and/or a subsequent inflammatory reaction. To date, it is unclear whether and how the impaired oxygen delivery and inflammatory environment may influence the basic functions of human ovarian somatic cells. In this study, we used an immortalized human granulosa cell line (COV434) as a model to investigate the effect of exposure to low oxygen levels (hypoxia) and inflammatory conditions on granulosa cell proliferation, apoptosis, and steroidogenesis. The results showed that both hypoxia (5% O2) and proinflammatory cytokine treatment (a combination of TNF-α, IL-1β, IFN-γ and IL-6) significantly increased apoptosis, suppressed proliferation, and affected estradiol secretion in COV434 cells. Our data suggest that granulosa cells could be particularly sensitive to changes in the local environment caused by oxygen deprivation and chronic inflammation.

The bioclastic wackestones at the base are defined as low-energy, shallow subtidal sediments. The laminated mudstones were deposited in the intertidal/supratidal zone of a tidal flat where fine-grained carbonate was mainly accumulated by tidal currents along with some in-situ microbially induced precipitation. The mudstones with root casts and the massive mudstones are interpreted as deposits in intertidal/supratidal ponds and supratidal marsh (palustrine) areas where alternating wetting and drying periods locally favoured desiccation and pedogenesis with vegetation development. The interbedding of laminites with non-laminated mudstones was likely controlled by a combination of autogenic and allogenic processes. The ambient waters did not reach hypersalinity for early dolomitization because the landward part of the restricted peritidal setting was influenced by freshwater input under semi-arid climatic conditions. Another hypothesis presumes that the sedimentation occurred in a coastal wetland with influence of both freshwater and seawater. However, the peritidal interpretation is preferred herein because it more adequately explains the general depositional environment. The carbonate succession indicates an upward-shallowing trend and was formed during the final regressive phase of Triassic platform development in Carnian–Norian times.

This paper focuses on the deployment optimization problem of WSNs dedicated to the monitoring area of interest. In this kind of networks, nodes are classified into two classes: Sensor Nodes (SNs) deployed within the area of interest for targets coverage and Relay Nodes (RNs) which relay sensed messages generated by the sensor nodes up to the sink node. In this study, we propose a Multi-Objective Throughput and Lifetime Optimization (MOThLO) which maximizes simultaneously the throughput and lifetime of sensor nodes, while ensuring network energy, latency and sensors lifetime. In order to evaluate the performance of our proposal, we have conducted many tests.
In modern communication system, mobile communication spectrum, below 3 GHz bands, faces more shortage and is not able to serve people with more efficient device connectivity and required data speed. Upon this background, 5G wireless communication – the 5th generation mobile technology standards are able to deliver high data rates, low latency communications, and massive device connectivity. For the efficient deployment of the 5G systems, and in order to support higher bandwidth, there is a dire need to design a compact and efficient antenna at mm wave frequencies (26/28 and 38). The resulting antenna, as the outcome, has been established to possess a compact size of 10 × 12 × 0.254 mm3 that covers three bands from the frequency spectra. The lower band resonant frequency is located at 26.74 GHz, the range between 25.44 GHz and 28.37 GHz, the middle band resonant frequency is located at 32 GHz, the range between of 31.08 GHz and 32.48 GHz, and the higher resonant frequency is located at 38.76 GHz, the range between 36.04 GHz and 40.34 GHz. In this article a modified novel structure of partial ground plane and DRA are used to get the better radiation enhancement and circular polarization. In this, the circularly polarized bands consist of the axial ratios <3 dB which are 27.95 GHz to 28.37 GHz, 31.08 GHz to 31.67 GHz, and 36.04 GHz to 38.73 GHz. The gain achieved is greater than 6.5 dBi and the efficiency is greater than 96% over the three bands. Ultimately, it is proved to the right option for 5G mm wave applications.

The described and illustrated phyllocarid remains consisting of a coupled telson and furcal rami were collected from upper Silurian (?) shale. This specimen is fragmented and poorly preserved to allow identification to species level, and has thus been assigned to Ceratiocaris sp. indet. The eurypterids are represented by part of a fragment, showcasing the distinct scale-like ornamentation of the pterygotids, and a segment of a walking leg. The pterygotid remains were found together with a few graptolite taxa (Monograptus sudeticus Porębska, “M.” microdon microdon Reinh. Richter, Neomonograptus aequabilis (Přibyl), Uncinatograptus hercynicus (Perner), U. subhercynicus (Willefert)), which are characteristic for the lower part of the U. hercynicus graptolite zone (Lochkovian, Lower Devonian). There are at least two species in this stratigraphic interval that correspond to the pterygotid eurypterids remains from Serbia – Acutiramis perneri Chlupáč and Pterygotus cf. barrandei Semper, but without the chelicerae, it is impossible to make precise identification. These new finds from eastern Serbia, together with the Bulgarian ones, are a further confirmation of peri-Gondwanan origin of pre-Variscan Palaeozoic sediments in the West Srednogorie Unit in Bulgaria and in the Gethicum Unit in Serbia.

In order to achieve this, the limits of the power used in this process are a minimum of 12 kW and a maximum of 35 kW. The thermochemical treatment time intervals are set at 5, 10, and 15 min. It is found that the phase composition of the surface layer after plasma gas nitriding consists of α-Ti, (N, O), TiN, and TiO2. Titanium oxides are detected only on the outermost surface of the nitrided layers. The measured hardness of the plasma gas nitrided layers obtained of Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al is up to 650 HK0.05. Potentiodynamic polarization analysis indicates that the subjects nitrided using 18 kW of power for 15 min have the lowest corrosion rate, while the highest corrosion rate is observed in those nitrided at 25 kW for 15 min.
