Irrigation plays a very important role in Smart Farm but also requires optimized operating conditions to maintain sufficient water supply while minimizing energy consumption. In this study, operation of water pumps in the irrigation system limited by the amount of available energy from the solar power station, are simulated and optimized to minimize the energy cost. Genetic algorithm is performed several times under different optimization parameters to obtain the most optimal solutions. Operating conditions are handled as penalty functions for the objective functions. The performance of the algorithm in solving multi-objective optimization problem is evaluated and presented.","PeriodicalId":104407,"journal":{"name":"2017IEEE 9th International Conference on Humanoid, Nanotechnology, Information Technology, Communication and Control, Environment and Management (HNICEM)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116401997","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Given that energy systems are major sources of greenhouse gas emissions, efforts are being undertaken to reduce their environmental impact while further improving their economic performance. Among these efforts is the development of polygeneration systems. Based on the principles of process integration, these systems consist of complex networks of integrated process units that yield multiple products for increased economic and environmental sustainability. Optimization techniques such as mathematical programming, provide design solutions to maximize the benefits delivered by these systems. A fuzzy linear programming model for the optimal design of off-shore polygeneration systems was previously developed. However, the design limits of the system performance parameters have yet to be determined. Thus, this study improves upon the model through the generation of its Pareto frontier. The relationship between product demand objectives and the economic objectives of the model are investigated under varying levels of their respective prioritization. The fuzzy optimization of the polygeneration system yields an overall degree of satisfaction of 0.45 with the Sterling engine being excluded. Moreover, the interaction of the product demand and annual net profit objectives is identified to be conflicting in nature. The results of the study allow the decision-makers to easily identify the optimal design of the off-shore polygeneration system based on the respective level of prioritization given to the objectives. In addition, the generated Pareto frontier also visualizes the advantages and tradeoffs between the optimal designs available.","PeriodicalId":104407,"journal":{"name":"2017IEEE 9th International Conference on Humanoid, Nanotechnology, Information Technology, Communication and Control, Environment and Management (HNICEM)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115500093","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the rise of cases involving stress disorder, the researchers aim to build a tool to aid professionals in assessing patients with high risk of PTSD. The parameters used are heart rate, skin conductance, and facial gestures. Sensors operated using an Arduino Uno measures and keeps track of the heart rate and skin conductance. Facial gestures are then processed using OpenFace, an open-source face recognition program that uses facial action units (AU) used to track facial movements. Readings are stored in databases which are uploaded to google drive for easier, quicker, and more direct access to important information by doctors. These parameters are analyzed and had undergone statistical tests to prove its accuracy. Be noted that this research is not built to give final assessments but just to aid professionals who are not currently within the vicinity to test a potential patient.","PeriodicalId":104407,"journal":{"name":"2017IEEE 9th International Conference on Humanoid, Nanotechnology, Information Technology, Communication and Control, Environment and Management (HNICEM)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115846266","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this design prototype, the group focused on creating a payment system and loading system using RFID technology in order to automate all the transaction records of the business and to incorporate convenience when within the resort. Both of the systems, that were made, use an RFID reader/writer, an Ethernet module, a 16×2 LCD display, and an ATMega328P Microcontroller. All of the data is processed in the ATMega328P Microcontroller. The device also monitors real-time transactions for both of the systems by sending data to the database. Once the RFID card has been tapped, the system will then send the data to the database. Once the testing has been finished, all of the data sent can be viewed in the database. The group successfully created a cashless transaction system that also monitors data in real-time.","PeriodicalId":104407,"journal":{"name":"2017IEEE 9th International Conference on Humanoid, Nanotechnology, Information Technology, Communication and Control, Environment and Management (HNICEM)","volume":"186 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127589136","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It offers a fast-growing feedstock with high oil yield per land area. The current challenge of microalgal biofuel is in its economic competitiveness, because of its high production costs relative to fossil-based fuels. Unique solutions have been proposed to address this issue. One solution focuses on the integration of its production process with another industrial process, such as integration to sugarcane mills. The integration of microalgal biofuel production to the sugar industry can act as a support for the former to be an attractive investment. Several studies have assessed such integration can lead to reduced fossil fuel dependence and reduced environmental impacts. In this study, we utilize linear programming modeling to generate two optimized designs of an integrated system. Both designs focus on maximizing the revenue of the integrated plant. The latter is designed to maximize the revenue with zero carbon emission. Results yield for the prior design had an increased revenue for the sugarcane mill by 4.23% with a drawback of a 7-fold increase in carbon emission. The latter design is able to achieve zero carbon emission with a reduced revenue of 7.68%. This study aims to provide plant designers a methodology to synthesize and assess the integration of a microalgae biofuel plant with the sugarcane ethanol plant.","PeriodicalId":104407,"journal":{"name":"2017IEEE 9th International Conference on Humanoid, Nanotechnology, Information Technology, Communication and Control, Environment and Management (HNICEM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125851249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Quality inspection of foods and packages are very crucial to the safety and to the high production requirement imposed by the consumers. This process involve handling various foods or objects with different sizes, shapes, color, and temperature for classification to ensure the quality of products before being sent out of the factory. This thesis proposes a novel automated system that classifies an object based on the four parameters: size, shape, color, and temperature. Color and temperature are the vital parameters of the study, as these two parameters tend to contradict with the existing object classification algorithms. The four parameters are obtained using the integration of an optical and thermal camera to capture image features and temperature respectively. Objects are classified using an artificial neural network as the machine learning algorithm. The performance and accuracy of the proposed system is evaluated and the existing works involving common parameters are compared.","PeriodicalId":104407,"journal":{"name":"2017IEEE 9th International Conference on Humanoid, Nanotechnology, Information Technology, Communication and Control, Environment and Management (HNICEM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122827759","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Another situation is that not all area situated below sea level is flood prone and vice-versa. In this study, threshold was used to serve as reference in processing LiDAR data to determine the condition of each region under data processing. The method provided in this study provided an efficient way in looking at particular map regions to identify the elevations based on the Delaunay Triangulation Technique. The said method also allows the determination the different levels under a particular region.","PeriodicalId":104407,"journal":{"name":"2017IEEE 9th International Conference on Humanoid, Nanotechnology, Information Technology, Communication and Control, Environment and Management (HNICEM)","volume":"148 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123206495","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The third factor includes the high level of salinity which is a great threat for the mangroves. With that, the researcher of this study came up with a low cost salinity monitoring system with temperature sensors. The said sensor node determines whether the salinity of the water exceeds the acceptable level (10,000 ppm) and upon encountered, the floodgates represented by the water pump will be controlled to open for the freshwater to flow from reservoirs. The flow of freshwater will stop by closing the floodgates as the sensor nodes determine that salinity level is now reduced to the acceptable ppm range. The low cost salinity sensor is based on the magnetic induction concept of the two sets of coils which are in toroidal and solenoid in forms. Zigbee will be the communications network of the sensors, the Arduino microcontroller and the water pump control system. System was deployed in two areas: the mangrove forest and non-mangrove located in Barangay Calibuyo, Tanza, Cavite. With the results, it's proven that the created salinity sensor has correlated results with the commercial one. Also, temperature has inverse relationship with the water salinity. Lastly, the control of the motor based on the threshold has proven 100% working as checked with different water samples.","PeriodicalId":104407,"journal":{"name":"2017IEEE 9th International Conference on Humanoid, Nanotechnology, Information Technology, Communication and Control, Environment and Management (HNICEM)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131370245","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
