Immobilization of microsomal fractions on polyethylene-grafted poly(allyl alcohol) and poly(acrylic acid) preserved 108 and 31.5% of aniline hydroxylase activity and 125 and 109% of <em>N,N</em>-dimethylaniline demethylase activity, respectively. An increased pH, temperature, and storage stability of the immobilized microsomes was observed. Column operation was performed as well. In particular, the microenvironment and local polarity near the catalytic sites and its influence on catalyst performance has been studied. Comparisons with literature data provide an explanation for some of the differences in reactivities observed by others and confirm that it is important to design the catalysts such that their reactive sites are surrounded by non-polar moieties. Catalytic activity and selectivity of these complexes in the esterification reaction of methacrylic acid and ethylene oxide were studied. They provide high degrees of conversion (96–100%) with minor formation of by-products. The catalysts contain up to 55% of total fixed Ti in the form of isolated Ti(III) ions. Ti(III) is formed in the alkylation of Ti(IV) by polymer-supported Mg species. Ti(III) is assumed to coordinate to the polymer support moieties at low Ti(III) content, and to form layers at high Ti(III) content in the catalysts. X-ray analysis indicated the presence of crystallites with dimensions of approximately 4–7.5 nm. The catalytic activity in ethylene polymerization depends on the amount of fixed magnesium. A correlation between catalyst activity and isolated Ti(III) ion content was found. Kinetic parameters of the polymerization in the presence of titanium-magnesium catalysts supported on organic and inorganic carriers were compared.
