Data encryption in ISO, the International Organization for Standardization

Abstract

The historical development from the start of work on data encryption up to the foundation of Sub-Committee SC 20 within ISO/97 is reviewed. The scope and programme of work are expounded, while some aspects of possible future developments and the impact of standardization in the field of data encryption are discussed.
