espanolEl presente texto busca definir la nocion del Espacio Intermedio, central en la obra de los Smithson, y descubrir sus trazas en los origenes del Team X –sus ramificaciones y antecedentes. A partir de dos textos de Alison y Peter Smithson, “The Space Between” (1974), y “Statement of problems regarded as central to architecture in the present situation” (1959), se rastrea este entendimiento multiescalar –de la escala domestica a la escala infraestructural– que sirvio para dar forma a la nueva ciudad que emerge en los ultimos CIAM y en la reuniones del Team X. El Espacio Intermedio aparece, de esta manera, como herramienta con la que redibujar el entorno de buena parte de la historia y de la cultura arquitectonica reciente y poder posicionarnos de manera mas precisa en la creciente complejidad contemporanea. EnglishThe present text aims to define the notion of The Space Between, central to the work of the Smithsons, and to disclose its traces until the origins of Team X –its branches and background. Analyzing two texts by Alison and Peter Smithson, “The Space Between” (1974), and “ Statement of problems regarded as central to architecture in the present situation” (1959), we study this multi–scale understanding –form domestic scale to the infrastructural scale– which was useful to shape the new city emerging in the last CIAM and Team X meetings. The Space Between appears, thus, as a tool to redraw much of the history and recent architectural culture, and to position ourselves within the growing contemporary complexity in a more precisely way.
