Abstract
The transgression resulting from the association of violence with women is revealed in the political and mediatic treatment that women of ETA have received, often associated with a perverted femininity. This article analyses the identification of the female ETA body with a sexuality divergent from nationalist normative models. It explores the conflictive relationship of women with violence and the political figures and leadership of Yoyes and Idoia Lopez Riano. In the first case, the article analyses the transgression represented by the unassimilable presence of an ETA leader after her abandonment of terrorist activity and after motherhood. In the second, it explores Lopez Riano’s representation and the political and mediatic negotiations of her identity. If Yoyes occupies a symbolic space in the Basque political imagination, Lopez Riano is a living testimony in the process of this female militancy in ETA.
