Abstract

In Argentina, since the return of democracy, despite provincial political reforms, at the municipal level, the fundamental characteristic is the possibility of re-election of the mayors. The paper aims to analyze the impact of the possibility of indefinite re-election of mayors in first-class municipalities in the provinces of Chaco and Formosa, upon the politics local regimes between 1983 and 2015. In the cases analyzed, the provincial constitutions and municipal regimes allow the indefinite re-election of the mayor; however, the same rule has different effects on local regimes.
