Abstract
The study of the influence of the ethnic factor on human health is relevant at the present time. Objective: to evaluate the antioxidant status of blood and ejaculate in infertile men in different ethnic groups. Methods. A retrospective analysis was made of the results of a survey of 222 Caucasians and 143 Mongoloids with pathozoospermia from infertile couples. The control groups were parktically healthy men with realized reproductive function (97 - Mongoloids and 104 - Caucasians). The material for biochemical studies was blood plasma and ejaculate. The work used spectrophotometric, fluorometric and statistical methods of research. In the blood and ejaculate of the examined men, the total antioxidant activity was determined as an indicator characterizing the total activity of lipid peroxidation inhibitors and determining its buffer capacity, the concentration of fat-soluble vitamins retinol and -tocopherol, and the level of superoxide dismutase. Results. In the blood of infertile Caucasian men, compared with fertile donors, a decrease in the concentration of retinol by 27% (p0.0001) and -tocopherol by 25% (p0.0001), as well as the activity of superoxide dismutase by 5% (p= 0.0002). In the ejaculate of male Caucasians with infertility, a decrease in the concentration of -tocopherol by 17% (p=0.0006) and an increase in total antioxidant activity by 21% (p=0.0004) were found. The antioxidant defense system in Mongoloid men is characterized by an increase in retinol concentration by 24% (p=0.0002) and total antioxidant activity by 13% (p=0.026), against the background of a decrease in superoxide dismutase activity by 8% (p0.0001).The results of the study of the antioxidant defense system in the ejaculate of Mongoloid men with infertility showed a decrease in the concentration of -tocopherol by 15% (p=0.03) and an increase in the level of total antioxidant activity by 17% (p=0.04). Conclusions. When one or more components of the antioxidant system are deficient, cells lose their ability to protect against the action of reactive oxygen species, which invariably leads to damage to tissues, organs, and organ systems. Assessment of the state of the antioxidant status in men of different ethnic groups has an important prognostic value in the study of reproductive health, contributes to the knowledge of the pathogenetic processes of the disease for personalized diagnosis, prevention and correction.
