Abstract

Medical photographs leave traces that mark a path through the historical journey of medicine, encompassing both technical and scientific advances. Thus, it is possible to transcend from a photographic image to a memory image. This article, presents a brief overview, based on some photographs, of what has been the practice of medicine in Antioquia, its anatomical practices on cadavers, as well as surgical practices, during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Furthermore, the photographs from that era provide evidence of the utility doctors found in documenting visible signs of disease or as part of their research.
