Abstract

Induction Motor current analysis or IMCA-based condition monitoring attained so much importance in recent years for its technical and economic advantages over other techniques. Accurate identification of stator inter-turn faults for induction motors at the initial stage, i.e., minor turns-to-turn fault is of great importance. The objective of this work is to characterize stator turn to turn fault during a few-turn-short-circuit fault condition. Cross-correlograms of stator currents of healthy and different fault conditions have been judiciously used to extract a few significant features. An exclusive experimental test rig has been setup to emulate the fault and to obtain the stator current signatures. The whole analysis is based on these signatures only.
