Abstract

A new and convenient method has been developed for the large scale preparation of (2-hydroxyethyl)trimethylammonium theophyllinate. 1 The synthesis of several (2-hydroxyalkyl)trimethylammonium theophyllinates was accomplished by the addition of trimethylamine to various epoxyalkanes and then reacting the resulting intermediate with theophylline or 8-substituted theophylline derivatives. Various properties of these compounds are described.
