Abstract

The study was conducted to determine the risk reduction management participated by the health sector in Gingoog City. The descriptive research design was used which utilized thirty respondents composed of 15 nurses from the City Health Office and 15 midwives from the Barangay Health Centers. They were chosen randomly with the criterion that they have at least six years of work experience. The questionnaire was the research tool in gathering the data. The data were presented by the frequencies, percentages, weighted mean, F-test, and t-test. The significant variable which is a significant differentiating factor is the length of work experience. A significant implication to risk reduction management is that the longer the years of work experience, the higher the extent of participation. The health sector which is composed of the nurses and midwives showed the highest extent of participation on disaster preparedness and mitigation. Undoubtedly they showed willingness to participate in disaster rehabilitation/recovery, and response. Their main concern is on the provision of medical services and health teachings to develop the residents’ awareness of the things to be prepared to prevent negative consequences to their health conditions. Keywords : Risk deduction, health sector, preparedness, mitigation, recovery
