Dorothy Heathcote: Larger than life teacher who placed drama at the heart of education

Abstract

Dorothy Heathcote, who died 8 October 2011 at the age of 85, used drama as a tool to promote holistic learning in schools. She was described by Professor John Carroll of Charles Sturt University, Bathurst, Australia as one of the twentieth century’s greatest teachers. One of her lectures was included in the Jennings Scholar lectures for Outstanding Teachers (1975) organised by the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation, Cleveland, Ohio.
