Abstract
The covariant oscillator quark model, which was extended recently so as to include the one‐gluon exchange effect, is applied to investigate the mass spectrum of light‐quark mesons. Our effective OGE potential is given as a sum of the Coulomb‐like and the hyperfine interaction and has a similar feature, except for lacking the spin‐orbit interaction, as in the usual non‐relativistic model. However, there are essential differences between them. First our scheme is manifestly covariant and the potential is concerned with hadron mass‐square. Second the Coulomb potential is modified largely. Due to these modifications we obtain a remarkable improvement in reproducing the experimental behaviors of the meson spectrum.
