Abstract
The mechanisms of the pyrolysis of molybdenum diethyldithiocarbamate and sulphurized molybdenum diethyldithiocarbamate were investigated. The performances, as lubricants, of the molybdenum compounds blended in the grease, and a mixture of elementary sulphur with MoS2 suspended in oil were compared using a Shell four-ball machine. The mechanisms of ep and anti-wear behaviour of molybdenum compounds were investigated by examining the wear scars using an electron probe microanalyzer and electron diffraction.
