Besides its excellent dielectric and mechanical properties, it also possesses significantly better damping characteristics, which are of great value in those parts of the world which are highly susceptible to dangerous seismic activity. Abstract

Discusses polymer concrete insulator concepts for electric substation applications and the benefits that can result from the adoption of such concepts. It is noted that field experience with this material now spans well over a decade in some regions and the results obtained from the field clearly confirm its viability and its serious challenge to replace standard electrical porcelain and predominantly organic materials. Besides its excellent dielectric and mechanical properties, it also possesses significantly better damping characteristics, which are of great value in those parts of the world which are highly susceptible to dangerous seismic activity.
