Abstract

Air is the most common insulation dielectric used in power system. Air discharge is a complex physical process affected by lots of environment factors such as temperature, humidity and air pressure. Studying the water droplets' influence to the air gap flashover characteristic can help improve the insulation performance and prevent the insulation accidents in power system. This article studied the flashover characteristic in short air gap length with water droplets, reveal the charged water droplet's effect in air gap flashover, which is significant to insulation against rain and insulation design.
