COMPLEXIDADE ECONÔMICA REGIONAL: UMA ABORDAGEM A PARTIR DE DADOS DE EMPREGO

Abstract

The present article uses information on the productive structure of the municipalities of Mato Grosso do Sul State in 2006 and 2016 to propose a measure of economic sophistication as presented by Hausmann et al. (2011), the Economic Complexity Index (ECI). To do this, the original method is adapted so that the traditional scope of international trade data is replaced by information related to formal employment, since to the municipal reality, such information demonstrates adhering more efficiently to the capture of the structure productive. The indicator proposed in the paper observed that, in general, there is a movement of diversification of the Mato Grosso do Sul’s economy, however, not enough to observe relevant growth of the levels of sophistication in the analyzed period.
