Introduction of clinical guidelines and algorithms, and technical advances in laboratory tests and imaging techniques have apparently improved diagnostic capabilities in infectious diseases substantially in the last three decades, and autopsies and post-mortem studies are seemingly unwarranted in nowadays infectious disease practice.
