Abstract

El presente artículo analiza la actuación de Cuba en los polémicos debates de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU) acerca del caso español. Durante diez años de aislamiento español (1945-1955), la naturaleza ideo-política de los gobiernos cubanos y el cambiante escenario internacional fueron determinantes en el tránsito de la Isla por tres etapas definidas muy claramente: la primera, favorable a la mediación entre las dos Españas en conflicto; la segunda, con el vuelco a la abstención; y la tercera, de respaldo al ingreso del régimen franquista en la ONU. Esta llamativa variabilidad no solo tensó por momentos sus relaciones con Madrid, sino que también llegó a poner en entredicho la mantenida tesis de dependencia de la Isla respecto a los dictámenes de Washington.
