Abstract

WordPress, a popular web site creation framework with powerful functionality, is an excellent candidate as a platform for creating on-line digital archives. However, it has certain functionality that works against the rigorous, semantically meaningful recording of data. Consequently, where it is used as an archival platform, semantic fidelity to original artifacts is almost certain to be compromised. This article discusses a tool, Músgraí WYSIWYM WP, which I created to address this problem; specifically in the context of older written and printed Irish and Scottish Gaelic texts, whose orthographies include characters no longer in common use.
