L’influenza degli stili di vita sull’insorgenza e sulla progressione delle parodontiti

Abstract

Objectives

The aim of this study is to determine the influence of certain lifestyles on the emergence and progression of periodontal disease.

Materials and methods

We conducted a literature review examining, in particular, the involvement of smoking, stress, and obesity in the pathological mechanisms underlying systemic diseases and periodontitis.

Results

Smoking, stress, and obesity were found to be important risk factors at both the systemic and oral-cavity levels.

Conclusions

Control of these risk factors represents a fundamental step in the treatment of periodontal disease.
