Abstract

The scope of this chapter is to be the biological activities and functions of polyunsaturated acids and the quantitative aspects of these where there is such information. Metabolism of these substances, treated in Chapter 5, is treated here only insofar as required to discuss structure and activity. General references which may be valuable for detailed historical material are the first review on EFA by Burr,⁴⁴ a symposium on the subject held in 1957⁹⁹ and several more recent reviews.^{2, 3, 16, 73, 88, 89, 93, 144, 146, 149, 208, 244, 305}
