Abstract
The national idea of the so-called Catalan Countries took off during late francoism and the transition. Its main theorist, the Valencian writer Joan Fuster, turned into a totem of the anti-Franco struggle. All the political cultures in Catalonia, the Valencian Country and the Balearic Islands debated on Fuster's national proposal. The revolutionary left did not stay out of the discussion. The whole amalgam of acronyms and organizations that were part of this political culture , were bound to debate on the topic . Nevertheless, the discussion was always lagging behind the political events as well as the intellectual debates which nationalism and the majority of the leftist movement carried out. Both, the lack of theorizing and vagueness became the general rule.
