Abstract

The hermeneutic directive to interpret from context is far more ambiguous than it may at ﬁ rst seem. . . . Every material aspect of an object has implications that change the hermeneutical connections, that is, “ contexts, ” among which one has a choice. Context is, therefore, by and large, a hypothetical concept.
