La "Peste de Cipriano": la primera gran pandemia de la Antigüedad Tardía (249-270)

Abstract

This paper aims to provide a historical overview of the main epidemic episodes that devastated the ancient world from 5000 BC to the beginning of the Late Antiquity (3rd century AD). Our focus is especially on the so-called «Cyprian Plague», a great plague, that devastated the Roman Empire between 249 and 270, and to which the North African bishop and martyr, Cyprian of Carthage, bore faithful and direct witness.
