Abstract

Abstract Greetings are linguistic and cultural universals. Every language and culture has a set of formulas or social and ritual acts practiced as greetings. Although cultural practices of greeting to achieve particular social goals may vary, the act of greeting, the paradigm itself, can be examined under two communicative functions. (1) trust/safety providing and (2) the power manipulation. This study examines greetings in Turkish folk tales and figures out their socio-pragmatic dynamics based on politeness theory and speech act theory.

问候语是语言和文化的共性。每一种语言和文化都有一套作为问候的公式或社会和仪式行为。虽然为达到特定的社会目标而打招呼的文化习俗可能会有所不同，但打招呼的行为，即范式本身，可以从两种交际功能来考察。(1)提供信任/安全;(2)权力操纵。本研究以礼貌理论和言语行为理论为基础，考察了土耳其民间故事中的问候语，并分析了其社会语用动态。

The journal contains eight divisions: Articles, Minor Contributions, Research Reports and Conference Reports, News, Projects and Queries, Reviews, Bibliographical Notes, and Books Received. Principal themes of the article section are the study of popular narrative traditions in their various forms (fairy tales, legends, jokes and anecdotes, exempla, fables, ballads, etc.), the interrelationship between oral and literary traditions as well as the contemporary genres. Interest focuses on Europe and overseas countries which are influenced by European civilization, but still, there is quite a number of contributions from other culture areas.
