Abstract

Earthquakes are a sign that the earth’s internal structure is changing. Seismic activity is normal in most parts of the world, but the frequency with which it occurs is determined by the tectonic setup of the region. Past earthquakes have resulted in significant loss of life and property, impacting a country’s social and economic conditions. Tough an earthquake cannot be prevented, the least that can be done to minimize damage is to make buildings earthquake-resistant.
