Abstract

: This article explores the rejection of democracy as a form of gov‑ ernment from classical to modern political theory, and how this rejection has resulted in more or less elitist versions that tend to distance the universality of the condition of electors in relation to the restrictions that operate on those who are elect. Versions of restricted republicanism, from Aristotle to Machi‑ avelli, are explored as a solution to the problems of demagogy
