These archival documents may not always be available, but they would have greatly enriched the book, providing insights into the operation of the magazine publishing business: how the editors selected the letters, how they responded and dealt with controversies, and the extent to which economic concerns influenced editorial decisions. Nonetheless, A Woman’s Place? is a carefully researched book, filled with brilliantly analysed examples from popular women’s magazines. It will be of interest to researchers in women’s history, periodical studies, and beyond.
