Abstract

The performance of the Bentley BOS-5 pediatric oxygenator was evaluated on the basis of its response to maintain arterial pH between 7.35 and 7.45, arterial pO(2) between 100 and 200 mm Hg, and arterial pCO(2) between 35 and 45 mm Hg (Texas Heart Institute perfusion protocol). The oxygenator was found to be efficient at all flow rates employed; however, the pO(2) parameter could not be consistently maintained within protocol limits, but could be improved when a mixture of 5% carbon dioxide/95% oxygen was used for the duration of a case.

Bentley BOS-5
