Abstract

The health care executive's role is becoming far more interesting and challenging. Knowledge needed by health care executives is increasing rapidly. Thus, the competency of the health care executive has become a major issue for the ACHE. The speed of change in the industry complicates the issue of competence and forces the health care executive to seek more effective ways to obtain new information. The ACHE has created a wide variety of new approaches and techniques to assist its affiliates to stay current and do their best. At the same time, the ACHE and its affiliates have a responsibility to maintain high ethical standards and to participate in the shaping of public policy. While we represent only one group of actors in the ethics and public policy play, we believe that our role is important and powerful. The ACHE will continue its efforts to analyze issues and provide needed information for affiliates, along with establishing specific positions on selected issues. The American College of Healthcare Executives is proud of the role that it plays through its affiliates in expanding and improving health care delivery in the nation. This role will continue to grow in response to the changing nature of the health care industry.
