Primary Orbital Cryptococcosis in an Immunocompetent Child: A Case Report.

Abstract

Orbital fungal infections are initially misdiagnosed, typically only considered in immunocompromised patients, and may be empirically treated with systemic corticosteroids-potentially exacerbating disease progression. We report the third case described in medical literature of Cryptococcus neoformans invading the orbit in an immunocompetent host and the first in a child with bilateral presentation.
