Psychometric Assessment of the Persian Version of the Surgical Anxiety Questionnaire in Patients Undergoing Cosmetic Surgery.

Abstract

Background and Purpose: Due to the absence of a specific tool for assessing surgical anxiety in Iranian patients undergoing cosmetic surgery, this study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Surgical Anxiety Questionnaire (SAQ) in these patients. Methods: A methodological study was conducted to assess the validity and reliability of the Persian version of the SAQ. Results: In the exploratory factor analysis, two items were removed, resulting in a final version of 15 items across three factors that accounted for 48.3% of the total variance. The confirmatory factor analysis showed a good fit for the model obtained (minimum discrepancy function divided by degrees of freedom = 2.84, root-mean-square error of approximation =07, and goodness-of-fit index =922). All factors demonstrated favorable internal consistency and stability. Conclusion: The aforementioned questionnaire demonstrated desirable psychometric properties for measuring surgical anxiety in Iranian cosmetic surgery candidates.
