Abstract
Aims and background: Skeletal class II malocclusion is a challenge to treat when the patient presents in the adolescent stage of growth with a vertical growth pattern along with an anterior open bite (AOB). The usage of traditional myofunctional modalities in such conditions has not provided favorable outcomes.
Case description: An 11.5-year-old male patient reported with a chief complaint of spacing between the upper and lower teeth. A detailed examination was done, following which the patient was diagnosed with skeletal class II malocclusion with an AOB. We present a unique case of combining twin block therapy with miniplates for treating the aforementioned diagnosis.
Conclusion: The treatment modality resulted in an esthetic profile along with correction of the open bite.
Clinical significance: This novel treatment modality could be an effective approach in treating skeletal class II malocclusion in conjunction with an AOB and a hyperdivergent facial growth pattern.
