Abstract

Energy structure transition is a long-term evolution towards low-carbon, clean, and reliable energy consumption, which is closely linked to national carbon reduction targets and the sustainable development of human societies. It calls for the construction of a scientific approach that synergises multidimensional objectives to assess its economic, social, and environmental benefits. This special issue brings widely different perspectives with the mutual aim of providing technical improvements and empirical research, moving a valuable step forward in developing a research agenda for sustainable development. We believe that the innovative insights gained from the studies included in this report can promote cooperation between researchers and practitioners in the energy sector, whether in scientific theory or policy practice.
