Abstract

Electrostatic discharge (ESD) is a concern in many situations. This article focuses on ESD damage in electronic industry system assembly and handling. The principles and current practice of ESD control are explained, including setup of ESD protected areas, characteristics of ESD protective packaging and the main current ESD control standards. Some current challenges are discussed.
