Abstract

Neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration are key pathological features of chronic neurological diseases. In a recent study, Woo and colleagues highlight that interferon (IFN)-γ signaling promotes an immunoproteosome-mediated shift of metabolism within neurons that elevates their susceptibility to oxidative injury. The results add to mechanisms of neurodegeneration in multiple sclerosis (MS) and introduce new therapeutic targets.
