Abstract
Objective
The International Journal of Adhesion and Adhesives (IJAA) stands out as one of the most prominent international journals on adhesion. This study analyzed articles published by IJAA through bibliometric and altmetric analysis.
Methodology
The search was conducted in July 2024 using the Web of Science. The following data were extracted from the articles: citation count and density, year, language, access type, funding agency, document type, research area, country, institution, authors, and keywords. VOSviewer software was used to generate collaborative network maps. Dimension was consulted to measure altmetric data. Google Trends was used to investigate the global popularity of IJAA research.
Results
A total of 3633 articles were included. Citation counts ranged from 0 to 492. The articles were published between 1987 and 2024. All articles were published in English. Research articles were the most prevalent (n = 3298), and the most investigated area was “Technologies and Engineering” (n = 3205). China was prominent (n = 510), but there was broad distribution among other countries. European authors and institutions were notable. The most common keyword was “adhesion” (n = 242). VOSviewer showed high collaboration between countries. Intense mentions were identified mainly in Mendeley and Patents. According to Google Trends, Iran was the country that searched for IJAA the most.
Conclusions
IJAA has shown significant growth in the number of citations and published articles over the years. Major trends were identified in research articles predominantly originating from China investigating adhesive strategies for engineering activities. Continuous growth was evident for open access studies, literature reviews, and studies in biomedical areas.
