[Animal mediation and empathy in the care of the elderly].

Abstract

Animal mediation as a non-pharmacological approach to neurocognitive disorders in the elderly is being increasingly implemented. By facilitating interactions and providing a positive emotional environment, the presence of animals seems to encourage more empathetic behavior, improving the quality of care and well-being. Does it have the capacity to stimulate empathy in caregiving, on the part of both the elderly and the caregivers?
