Abstract
In February 1916, the National Medical Association of China (N.M.A.) and the China Medical Missionary Association (C.M.M.A.) prepared for a joint medical conference in Guangzhou in early 1917 for the further development of western medicine in the country. At the end of November 1916, the Kwangtung branch of the National Medical Association of China was established for facilitating cooperation with the South China Branch of the China Medical Missionary Association and preparing for the Conference. It is believed to be the first local branch of the National Medical Association of China nationally and internationally. It is also considered to be the largest and well-developed local branch in the early stage of the National Medical Association of China in terms of participants and strength. Its establishment and activities promoted the organisational construction and development of the National Medical Association of China.
