The mental health community is reeling after the narrow passage of H.R. 1 — formally titled the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” — which includes sweeping cuts to Medicaid funding. Advocates describe the legislation as “devastating,” warning that it threatens to unravel critical access to mental health care for millions of Americans. The bill, which passed the Senate with a tie-breaking vote, is projected to slash over a trillion dollars from Medicaid, potentially leaving nearly 12 million people uninsured.
