Abstract
This paper describes the influence of the Jonhs Hopkins School of Medicine on the origin of academic neurosurgery in America. The impact, arising from two of the founders, W Osler and W Halsted, was vehiculated by their direct pupils Harvey Cushing and Walter Dandy.
