Abstract
This overview article provides examples of new antenna development across the past 50 years. Among others, the article highlights planar and conformal antennas, small antennas, fractals, apertures/arrays, Vivaldis and tightly coupled dipole arrays (TCDAs), active antennas, metamaterial apertures, textured materials antennas, magneto-piezoelectric antennas, non-Foster impedance matching, electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) antennas, automotive antennas, handset antennas, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antennas, millimeter-wave (mmWave) antennas, terahertz antennas, medical application antennas and reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs), and reflector antennas.
